Just to keep things simple, the cast includes only people I've mentioned by name (I mean alias).
The Brit: My love and best friend.Henry and Jude (AKA H and J): My nephews, the lights of my life. H turned 4 in April and J will be 2 on August 20. Both hilarious, adorable, precocious bundles of joy and other stuff.
MOL: My sister, slightly less than two years younger than I, mother of the nephews, one of the most remarkable people I know. Super fun, gorgeous, and a brilliant parent. She's married to BIL, my brother-in-law.
EM: My sister, eight years younger, impossibly blond and adorable, with the world's most bangin ass. She is my fabulous partner in crime. She is also now my roommate, and if I have rescued her from under the well-meaning but micromanaging thumbs of our parents, she has in turn rescued me from a lot of undignified scrambling to figure out my home life during a seriously transitional period.
HOB: My wayward brother, 5 years younger, a sasquatch and rockstar. I never get to see him because he's in Pittsburgh, but when I do see him, I end up doing shots in the basement of music clubs. Have I mentioned that my family totally rules?
Z: One of my best friends, from college days. When we met she was still wearing headgear and I was still a virgin. Ahhh, memories.
C-Mo: My most recent roommate, another singer. He was the most low-impact roommate imaginable, and cleaning his body hair off the bathroom floor (which I did because he literally did not notice that it was there) was a small price to pay for our harmonious home life.
Dom: Another of my besties, also a singer, a completely juvenile and wonderful person and accomplished car-dancer. He has finally cut the cord here in the Twin Titties and set off for more operatic climes. I will be missing him on the regular. But I'm excited for him too.
LA: A good and dear friend from college who recently returned from a year's sojourn in NYC.
MMK: The only friend I have from childhood who is still central in my life. Beautiful, wise, nutty, married to Goatboy.
Jella: My best friend from high school, a permanent part of my life even if she only surfaces occasionally.
Dr. Dra: My friend and former roommate, master of pointlessly translating American pop songs and idioms into bad, nonsensical, or hilarious French (e.g. "Poussiere dans le vent," "tu peux compter sur moi"). She's now serving in the Peace Corps in Ghana. Booya!
C, L, Goose, and Wildman: A young family of L.A.-dwelling lovelies. Goose is roughly J's contemporary (we have not betrothed them), and Wildman is her brand-new brother, whom I've not met. L was my favorite college roommate and is the shortest woman I've ever seen lactate. For whatever that's worth.
TMG: Colleague and friend, super soprano and ex-rockabilly chick.
Bill: My most tactless and politically incorrect friend, very wonderful on the inside and with lots of showy muscles on the outside. RJ is his boyf and my sometime-boss.
JSM: As I described him in an entry, an adorable twinky yoga fag and one of my dearest. We, along with Dom, started grad school together and have seen each other through vast amounts of ridiculum by being collectively hilarious. JSM lives in San Fran and I don't get to see him nearly enough. Alas for all of us.
Nat and Flamingo: My favorite lesbians, who unfortunately recently split up. Nat, along with Dr. Dra and Goodness, rescued my social life in my "super-senior" year of college. We were a total dysfunctional family, and we basically had fun all the time.
Various Recent Suitors: Neuroscientist, the Shrink, Sasquatch, Hot Doctor, Sporto, PoliSci, and probably a bunch of others I've nicknamed and forgotten. And then Angel, who appeared at the right moment to remind me of what I deserve. This is all just FYI.
Recent past exes: Mike, who I think of as a Dickhead Instrument of Destiny, for by dissing me he paved the way for me to meet the Brit. FB, the ex-boyfriend at the beginning of this blog. J.D. was the one before that. All short-term, all stupidly heartbreaking.
Distant past exes: Schmalec, my first long-term relationship; Foolish Boy, who supplanted Schmalec and stayed around almost 5 years, which I now find unfathomable.
