stone out of my mind.

Have you heard about Alicja Tysiac? She was recently awarded a big fat $25,000 euros by the European Court of Human Rights, which ruled that, indeed, her human rights were violated when no doctor would authorize an abortion despite the fact that they all told her it was likely she'd go blind if she carried the pregnancy to term. And guess what, she had a retinal hemorrhage and can only see 5 feet in front of her, which has got to make caring for three children difficult. I guess one could celebrate the court ruling, but the damage has already been done. Here's a good post about it over at punkassblog, which is where I heard about it in the first place.

News is relentlessly depressing, have you ever noticed that?

(Click the link at left to donate to the Pro-Choice Resources Bowlathon, or, as one reader put it, the "Blowathon," which would be something quite different.)

I'm fighting off Fruitless Unrest mode right now. It's grey outside and I'm wearing a poo-green beret. The magical weather of a few days ago beat a retreat, as it always does this time of year. The Brit is in Vegas until tomorrow. I'm eating haphazardly and I ran out of coffee yesterday. I think cleaning something, like maybe the floor or my desk, is the remedy.

Fruitlessly,
Maven.
